This memorial is gratefully dedicated to the Issei pioneers who founded the Japanse Mutual Aid Society of Chicago in 1935 and to the Issei who came to Chicagoland from wartime 'relocation centers.'

With wisdom, vision, and fortitude, they served the special needs of the Chicagoland Japanese community in the face of discrimination, the Great Depression and other tribulations.
