A burial place for the pioneer residents of Fort Lauderdale was established by Mr. & Mrs. E.T. King in 1910 as a privately owned cemetery. On June 19, 1917, the cemetery was purchased by the City of Fort Lauderdale. Later, to enlarge the cemetery, the city purchased additional adjoining lands, to the South and East, from Mrs. King and the Broward Grove & Farm Co.
